Glow Co. Cares
By: Justina Perry
Founded in 2019, by Shanika Marie Berry, Glow Co. aims to provide healthy skincare using high-quality and non-toxic products. This New Bedford-based company is passionate about making sure all formulas are paraben-free, sulfate-free, carcinogen-free, and eco-friendly. Affordable yet luxurious, Glow Co. delivers high-quality products that will leave your skin feeling AMAZING after each use.
I’ve had the pleasure of using just about all of their products including the face serum, moisturizer, cleanser and they are all the truth! We sat down with Shanika to learn more about the woman behind this up-and-coming business!
BuyBlackNB: Who you got--New Bedford Or Boston??
Shanika: Lol ok so I was born in New Bedford and though it’s cool and all, Boston raised me. That is my home. I’m always going with my city, Boston.
BuyBlackNB: If you had to pick one, you going with haircare or skincare?
Shanika: How do you pick between this? 😫😫 They’re both so important and staples when it comes to your wellness and self-care. I mean if we’re talking about making them, I’ll go with my skincare - so much easier.
BuyBlackNB: Which do you prefer? Using a vendor or homemade products?
Shanika: Well I actually do both. All of Glow Co. is homemade but the boutique is from a vendor. (for now at least 😉) - I recommend doing what is best for you and what is easiest for you. Some people can’t sit and make 100+ products because it may stress them out. So, in that case, find you a good vendor with great quality products that you can work with. You want to work smarter and not harder. (You also don’t want to be lazy either.) If you feel something is too much for you, find a way to lighten that load and vendors help a lot with that.
BuyBlackNB: What makes your products especially for melanated skin?
Shanika: Though we welcome all people, I made Glow Co. with melanin in mind. We tend to be the ones who are prone to hyperpigmentation and dark spots, but yet a lot of products on market either have horrible ingredients for our skin or bleaching agents. That’s a big no for me.
BuyBlackNB: What other Black brands are you loving right now?
Shanika: Some of my favorites are Aeva Beauty, Nailholic Studio, The Bag Junki Shop, Best Girl Store, and Smug Beauty. The products are amazing, the branding gives me life and the owners are simply all for women.
BuyBlackNB: If you could break the law and get away with it what’s the one thing you would do?
Shanika: Hmmm this is a good one. Honestly, this is so small but I really want a pet fox and since it’s illegal here, it’s either pack my bags and leave Massachusetts or, you know, that law is getting broken 🤣
BuyBlackNB: What’s something that 2020 taught you?
Shanika: 2020 personally for me was a lot of spiritual and personal growth. Going inwards to heal whatever needs to be healed so I can reach my full potential and be my best self. 2020 taught me to connect with myself on a deeper level, to connect with my ancestors, to walk in my purpose.
BuyBlackNB: What’s next for Shanika?
Shanika: Oh, I have a lot coming up for 2021! Glow Co. has some amazing collaborations with a few tv and social media personalities that people may be familiar with. I can’t talk too much on these just yet due to legalities. But, you can expect to see us way more. I also have my women’s boutique and styling services (( Savage Dollz )) that will be launching in March 2021. Fashion is something I have wanted to do for at least 10 years and I am so happy to finally take this step towards one of my biggest passions. Aside from that, I continue to glow and grow in all ways. It’s only up from here and there’s so much that I know is in store for me.
