BuyBlackNB’s 2021 New Year’s Resolutions
A list of New Year's Resolutions for consumers or activists that can help Black business prosper in the upcoming year.
by Diogo Fernandes Tavares
2020 was tumultuous. A disruptive pandemic, a capricious election, and powerful protests exposed the truths that were buried in our country like a trial America was not prepared for. Every American has to acknowledge these truths, so that detrimental lies and opinions will no longer consume and pollute a future in which healing and love can be the pillars.
The exposed truths can be seen as black and white, but not true and false. The truths:1) after adjusting for age, the COVID-19 death rate for Black people increased to 3.6 times that for white people. 2) When the election was a toss up between Biden and Trump, Black women decided the future. 3) Even though BLM protests happened in all states we are still not heard.
The biggest emphasis for 2021, a building block for the future, is supporting and growing Black-owned businesses to strengthen the Black community. I curated a list of New Year's Resolutions for consumers or activists that can help Black business prosper in the upcoming year.
