Buy Black Friday
By: Diogo Fernandes Tavares
Facebook announced #BuyBlack Friday on October 8th as a part of their Season of Support. Finding and supporting Black-owned business will be easier on Facebook.
Starting on October 30th, Facebook will be providing access to fund Black-owned businesses in need each Friday until November 27th. #BuyBlack Friday will help combat the 41 percent of Black-owned businesses that shut because of COVID-19.
On each Friday, Facebook will be providing live events celebrating Black-owned businesses and their service to their communities. “There will also be a range of events and resources within Facebook’s Lift Black Voices Hub and on the Facebook App Facebook Page, including the #BuyBlack Friday Show, which will air live every Friday from Oct 30 – Nov 27. This will feature Black businesses, musical artists and entertainers, like stand-up comedian and New York Times best-selling writer and actress, Phoebe Robinson,” Sheryl Sandberg, CCO of Facebook said on the Facebook blog.
I applaud Facebook for setting up easier connections for supporting and aiding Black-owned business for users. I encourage Facebook users to take advantage of the #BuyBlack Friday so Black America can recover. I remind Facebook users that Facebook should be applauded but not seen as a friend. Instead, a vessel to alleviate the current issues. So, make sure you, your mom, and your grandma go on Facebook and support our Black entrepreneurs and businesses. They are one of the veins needed to battle and end racism.
